Weekly Update 07/13/2020 – Fr. Cyril Gorgy
Beloved Holy Resurrection Church family,
I miss you and am praying that you are well and safe.
ALL Liturgies are temporarily ON HOLD for two weeks, due to the increase of COVID-19 cases and its adverse impact. This includes the Wednesday and Friday Eucharistic Divine Liturgies. The Clergy of the blessed Diocese of Los Angeles will meet in two weeks to reevaluate the situation.
All other services will continue to be conducted virtually. Sunday Sermon will be available Sunday Morning on HRC YouTube channel (HRC Media Page).
Last Sunday we celebrated the Feast of the Apostles. The gospel of Vespers was from Luke 9:1-6 when our Lord Jesus sent the 12 Disciples. And the Gospel of the Divine Liturgy was from Luke 10:1-20 when Jesus sent the 70 Apostles. On that feast we also prayed the Lakkan prayer (blessing of the water) followed by the priest washing the feet of his children, just as Christ did at the Last Supper. The readings and the rite of the church reveal to us our purpose as Orthodox Christians, that we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to serve others and we are commissioned to “Go and make disciples” Matthew 28:19. We learn from St. Peter and St. Paul that we ought to use our God given gifts, whether it’s spiritual gifts, abilities, personality or life experiences to minister it to other and share our faith with everyone God places in our life. May the Lord help each one of us to fulfill the purpose that God formed us for.
We pray for those who are sick, for the end of this pandemic and for us to go back to regularly celebrating the Divine Liturgy together.
May our Risen Lord support and protect you, and your family by the power of His Holy Resurrection. Missing you very much.
For His Glory,
Fr. Cyril
